Michael Cohen, who used to be President Trump’s lawyer and fixer, said in court last week that he saw fear in the president’s eyes when he was being charged.
Cohen said that the day Trump was arrested was a “very sad day for America” and that the charge did not make him feel “great.” Still, he thought it was important to hold the past president responsible.
Cohen told MSNBC’s Katie Phang on Saturday, “Donald can say whatever he wants, we all saw the look on his face.” Fear and anger are both visible in his eyes. So, he had to go straight to Mar-a-Lago. He wanted to feel better about himself as soon as possible.
Trump was officially charged with 34 crimes on Tuesday, and he pleaded not guilty to all of them. One of the charges is that he made false claims in company filings as part of a “catch and kill” plan to break election laws in 2016.
Details from the released charge, a fact sheet, and a news conference by Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg show that the investigation is focused on three people who Trump and several people in his inner circle are accused of giving hush money to. (D).
The three people in question are a doorman at Trump Tower, a pornstar named Stormy Daniels, and a model who used to work for Playboy. Cohen helped get some of the money used to keep quiet to the right people. He promised to pay Daniels’ lawyer $130,000 with a home equity loan and a fake business so that Daniels wouldn’t talk about a meeting from ten years ago.
Then, it is said that the Trump Organization paid Cohen for “legal expenses” that he never had. Bragg says that Trump and his friends lied on the refund forms to hide the fact that they did things that were against the law. Trump has said many times that he is not guilty.
Cohen said, “I’m glad responsibility has found its way to Donald.” Still, one observer said, “It’s a very sad day for America because he’s the first president in U.S. history to be indicted.”
He said that it makes the United States look bad, especially to people who are not from here and to our friends. I also think it shows our enemies that we are weaker than we think.
Cohen pleaded guilty to a number of crimes in 2018, including one that had to do with the payment to Daniels and lying. He was a very important witness when Trump was being probed in New York City.
Trump is going to be heard in December.
