A group of software engineers in Minneapolis was harassed by an anti-ICE crowd after being mistakenly identified as federal immigration agents while eating lunch at a local restaurant.
The incident began when a false alert circulated among activists claiming plain-clothes ICE officers were dining at the establishment. The misinformation spread quickly, drawing a group of protesters to the area.
When the engineers attempted to leave, demonstrators confronted them, shouting accusations, filming them, and surrounding the group despite their efforts to explain they were private citizens with no connection to law enforcement. The encounter escalated verbally and created a tense and intimidating situation.
Several of the men later described the experience as frightening, saying the crowd’s reaction felt unpredictable and unsafe. No arrests were reported, and the group eventually managed to leave the area without physical injury.
The incident underscores how heightened tensions and misinformation surrounding immigration enforcement can quickly spiral, placing uninvolved civilians in the middle of volatile confrontations.
