Rep. Zooey Zephyr (D) of Montana recently placed blame on Republicans for the state’s high death rate.
According to a Montana government spokesman, a state lawmaker was criticized for making “hateful comments” to Fox News Digital. The lawmaker, according to a spokesperson, was “seeking media attention.”
On Tuesday, during a contentious discussion over a plan to ban gender-affirming care for children, state politician Zooey Zephyr made incongruous claims.
Zephyr claims that the people who voted for the measure are responsible for the deaths of transgender children and young adults.
For this reason, Zephyr said, “I hope the next time there is an invocation and you bow your heads in prayer, you see the blood on your hands” if they supported the legislation and its revisions.
Republican Speaker Matt Regier cut off Zephyr’s opportunity to speak on a measure that would impose binary sex designations after she had already begun. On Thursdays and Fridays, Zephyr was also silenced.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, a lawmaker from Montana said, “Not only has my colleague broken the rules of decorum, but he has also broken the trust of the other 99 Representatives.” At least one of my responses was along these lines: “The hateful comments were a way to help myself, not the public.”
In light of the harm done by the joke, one Republican lawmaker expressed gratitude to the Speaker and Majority Leader for providing his colleague many opportunities to make amends. After the violent attack on the House, the congressman looked for other ways to draw attention. This can’t go on much longer.
If you want to participate in class again, you need to apologize, as Zephyr claims Regier told her. Zephyr was steadfast in her belief that the interests of her community should be prioritized in the drafting of the law.
When Zephyr was asked how she felt about laws that might effect the LGBTQ community, she responded, “I stand up for my community.” I was careful with my comments and focused only on the issues that these deeds raised.
