During a segment of MSNBC’s “Saturday Show with Jonathan Capehart,” the panel engaged in mockery and name-calling directed at Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis, labeling her as “America’s Karen” while discussing her husband Governor Ron DeSantis’ potential presidential campaign.

Host Jonathan Capehart led the discussion with MSNBC analyst David Jolly and The Lincoln Project member Tara Setmayer, focusing on DeSantis’ campaign strategy, particularly after the announcement of Casey’s Mamas for DeSantis initiative.

Jolly referred to Casey DeSantis as a compelling political figure in Florida and potentially on a national scale, but he also acknowledged that she has become a polarizing figure. He described her as “America’s Karen,” highlighting the disconnect between her role in the campaign and the need to embrace a broader range of constituencies to succeed in a White House bid.

The panel shared laughter and continued to mock Casey, with Capehart playfully mentioning that Jolly had surpassed Setmayer in his bold statement. Setmayer responded by calling Casey a “Serena Waterford wannabe” and urged her to stop aspiring to be like the character from Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Setmayer also added that Casey should refrain from envisioning herself as a Jackie O reincarnate, cautioning viewers to keep an eye on her because she is a cunning figure.

Jolly further expressed his views on Casey’s role in the campaign, suggesting that while she may be an effective messenger, her efforts might only highlight the weaknesses of Ron DeSantis’ message. He argued that the DeSantis doctrine, which focuses on culture wars to frighten voters, is not a resonating message and will ultimately lead to defeat. Jolly concluded that regardless of how the message is presented, whether by Casey in heels or boots, the DeSantis doctrine is bound to fail, and Casey’s increased visibility will only confirm this.

It is worth noting that since the beginning of DeSantis’ campaign, mainstream media outlets have used various derogatory names to insult and belittle Casey DeSantis, ranging from comparisons to Lady Macbeth to derogatory remarks like “Walmart Melania.” These insults have been seen in publications such as The Daily Beast, further contributing to the contentious nature of the discussion surrounding Casey and her role in politics.
