Police have unveiled mugshots of the two 17-year-old suspects arrested in connection with the June 30 fatal shooting of congressional intern Eric Tarpinian-Jachym. The individuals, Kelvin Thomas Jr. and Jailen Lucas, have been charged as adults with first-degree murder. Reports indicate they fired upon a group from a stolen vehicle, hitting several bystanders—including the intern, a 21-year-old UMass Amherst student working for Rep. Ron Estes—who tragically died after being struck by four bullets.
While the investigation advances, authorities continue searching for a third suspect, 18-year-old Naqwan Antonio Lucas, who remains at large. A $50,000 reward has been posted for information leading to his capture.
This revelation comes amid intensified debate over juvenile justice laws, with prosecutors urging broader power to prosecute violent minors as adults. The case has also reignited calls for enhanced safety measures and federal support for law enforcement in Washington, D.C.
