The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) disclosed late Tuesday that they have made several arrests in connection with the tragic death of a high school student earlier this month. Eight teenagers, aged between 13 and 17, have been charged with murder in the case.

Authorities have withheld the names of the suspects due to their juvenile status. The incident, which involved students from Rancho High School, was described by LVMPD Lieutenant Jason Johannson as shockingly inhumane. Johannson clarified that there was no evidence to categorize the incident as a hate crime.

Jonathan Lewis, 17, was the victim of the fatal assault that occurred on November 1. The Clark County coroner’s office stated that Lewis died due to multiple blunt force injuries, classifying his death as a homicide.

A disturbing video of the incident shows Lewis on the ground, unable to defend himself, and eventually becoming unconscious. According to police, the altercation stemmed from a dispute over a pair of stolen wireless headphones and possibly a vape pen. Investigators believe that a total of 10 individuals were involved in the homicide and are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the two remaining suspects. Images of these two individuals had not been released by Tuesday afternoon.

This violent episode has shaken the local community and highlights growing concerns about youth violence and safety in schools. The LVMPD continues its investigation and efforts to bring all responsible parties to justice.
