As per the latest report from a civil rights organization, the Sunshine State of Florida is facing grave concerns regarding its treatment of minority communities, including black individuals, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community.

Derrick Johnson, the leader of the civil rights organization, emphasized the urgent need to remove Governor Ron DeSantis from power once and for all during the upcoming 2024 presidential race.

During an exclusive interview with CNN, Johnson outlined the organization’s active efforts to reshape the political landscape in response to the recent travel advisory issued for Florida, triggered by Governor DeSantis’s policies as a potential presidential candidate.

Reflecting on the situation, Johnson stated, “This is not a situation that arose overnight; it is a culmination of factors, and the election played a significant role. We must prepare for the upcoming election to ensure that we can definitively remove him from power.”

Johnson further condemned the divisive rhetoric and policies employed by both former President Trump and Governor DeSantis, labeling them as not only un-American but also perilous. He stressed the need to rectify the current political climate and establish a more inclusive and equitable society.

Among the concerns highlighted by the civil rights organization, the NAACP, was Governor DeSantis’s alleged relentless assault on the rights and well-being of black Americans. According to their statement, Florida has become a breeding ground for hostility and discrimination against African Americans, people of color, and LGBTQ+ individuals. The organization expressed concern over the devaluation and marginalization of these communities and the challenges they face.

The travel advisory was prompted by Governor DeSantis’s recent enactment of several controversial laws, including restrictive abortion measures and the prohibition of funding for diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in public colleges across the state.

The NAACP’s local Florida branch initially proposed the travel advisory in March, citing “anti-black legislation” as the primary driver. The recommendation was subsequently ratified by the NAACP’s board of directors.

Governor DeSantis dismissed the initial proposal for a travel advisory as a mere “stunt.” During a press conference, he characterized it as an elaborate hoax, stating, “If that’s what you want to do, go ahead and spend your time on a stunt. But I won’t waste my time with your theatrics. Here, I will ensure that meaningful action is taken.”

As of now, there has been no immediate response from Governor DeSantis’s political team regarding the travel advisory proposal.
