A man has been arrested and charged following a mass shooting from a boat at a Southport, North Carolina waterfront restaurant that left three people dead and several others wounded.
Authorities identified Nigel Max Edge, 40, as the suspect. He faces three counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted first-degree murder in connection with the incident.
Law enforcement officials describe the attack as “highly premeditated.” Investigators say the gunman opened fire from a vessel on the Cape Fear River into the American Fish Company restaurant at approximately 9:30 p.m. Saturday night.
After the shooting, the boat fled toward the Intracoastal Waterway. The U.S. Coast Guard later detained an individual matching the description at a marina in neighboring Oak Island. That person was turned over to local law enforcement.
Police officials stated they believe the suspect acted alone and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active, with authorities continuing to gather evidence and question witnesses.
