In a shocking and tragic incident, a chilling video has surfaced, capturing the horrifying moment when a dispute over noise between neighbors took a deadly turn in a Brooklyn apartment complex on Sunday night. The distressing footage, exclusively obtained by The Post, paints a grim picture of a violent confrontation that ultimately claimed the lives of two individuals.
The incident unfolded in the well-known East Flatbush housing complex located at 1418 Brooklyn Ave, a place associated with the upbringing of stars like Barbra Streisand and Michael K. Williams. The video commences with a man dressed entirely in black, visibly agitated, pacing back and forth outside the apartment of his upstairs neighbors on the fourth floor.
The man, identified as 47-year-old Jason Pass by law enforcement, engages in a heated exchange of words with a woman who emerges from the neighboring apartment. The video, unfortunately, lacks audio, leaving the nature of their conversation a mystery.
Shortly after, the woman is joined by her son, identified as 27-year-old Chinwai Mode. The tension escalates as the video shows the situation becoming increasingly confrontational. At this point, the stepfather, 47-year-old Bladimy Mathurin, a school bus driver and father of four, emerges from the apartment, brandishing a pair of scissors, and angrily confronts their neighbor.
Efforts to de-escalate the situation are made by Mathurin’s wife, but her husband pushes her away. Tragically, the confrontation takes a harrowing turn when the neighbor in black draws a handgun and points it at Mathurin. Despite spotting the firearm, Mathurin attempts to walk back towards his apartment. It is at this moment that the neighbor opens fire, striking Mathurin, who collapses to the floor.
Chinwai Mode, who is also in the hallway, attempts to flee from the assailant. Shockingly, the neighbor fires multiple shots at him, even after he has fallen in a pool of his own blood next to a staircase. The assailant then returns to Mathurin, who is still alive and struggling to get up, and shoots him execution-style on his own doorstep.
Having committed this brutal act, the gunman calmly observes the horrific scene before stepping into an elevator, taking it down to the street, and fleeing the premises. Police later recovered nine .45-caliber shell casings and five bullet fragments from the gruesome crime scene.
The apartment complex where this harrowing incident unfolded is a sprawling 59-building complex built in the 1940s. Originally known as Vanderveer Estates, it was later renamed Flatbush Gardens. This housing development has seen its share of notable residents, including the iconic Barbra Streisand during her teenage years. Michael K. Williams, renowned for his portrayal of Omar Little on HBO’s “The Wire,” also resided in Flatbush Gardens for many years before his tragic passing in September 2021 due to a drug overdose.
Paramedics responding to the scene found both Bladimy Mathurin and Chinwai Mode dead from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso. The grieving wife, Marie Delille, revealed that her family, originally from Haiti, had been embroiled in a long-standing dispute with their downstairs neighbor over noise.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny disclosed that there had been six previous 311 calls related to noise complaints from the alleged shooter’s apartment. The complaints primarily revolved around the sound of people walking, attributed to the lack of carpeting in the upstairs apartment, which had a wooden floor.
Jason Pass, the alleged shooter, had one prior arrest for robbery in 1992. Notably, he had a brief employment history as a state correction officer at Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining from September 2004 to June 2005, when he was terminated, as per a Department of Corrections and Community Supervision spokesperson.
The tragic incident began with the fed-up neighbor banging on his ceiling in response to perceived loud noises emanating from Mathurin and Delille’s apartment. Mathurin’s response, which included banging back, led to the neighbor rushing upstairs and kicking the family’s front door, according to Delille.
Marie Delille vehemently maintained that her husband was not armed and bore no responsibility for the tragic events that transpired. She questioned why their neighbor had brought a gun into the situation and ultimately tore her family apart, leaving them devastated. The incident unfolded in front of her 10-year-old daughter, leaving a lasting scar on their lives.
Bladimy Mathurin, who worked tirelessly, juggling two jobs as a school bus driver by day and an Uber driver on the side, all in an effort to provide for their four children, was known for his passion for bodybuilding. Friends and family remember him as a kind and wonderful person, dispelling any misconceptions about his intimidating appearance.
