Grammy-winning artist Nelly Furtado announced she is stepping away from live performances indefinitely, citing a wave of body-shaming attacks as a key factor in her decision. In a social-media post marking the 25th anniversary of her debut album, she thanked fans for their support but stated it was time to pursue other creative and personal endeavours.
The 46-year-old Canadian singer emphasized she will continue writing music but will no longer tour or perform on stage for “the foreseeable future.” She referenced online comments about her body and outfit choices as having taken a toll on her experience in the spotlight.
Though she expressed gratitude for a rich career—including chart-topping hits such as “Promiscuous” and “I’m Like a Bird”—Furtado said the next chapter of her life feels different. She asked fans to respect her choice and pledged to engage with music in new, less public ways.
