A tragic road rage encounter early Friday morning claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy who was being driven to school by his stepfather in Henderson, Nevada. Police say the fatal shooting took place around 7:30 a.m. on a congested stretch of Interstate 215 when a dispute between two drivers escalated.

According to authorities, one driver attempted to pass the vehicle in which the child was riding by moving onto the shoulder. The maneuver triggered an argument that quickly became violent. The 22-year-old suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot into the victim’s vehicle, striking the boy in the back seat. Despite efforts by emergency medical personnel, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The boy’s stepfather responded by ramming the suspect’s vehicle, causing both cars to come to a halt in the middle of the freeway. The confrontation continued on foot until a nearby police officer intervened and arrested the suspect, who has been booked on charges including open murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

Speaking at a press conference, Henderson Police Chief Reggie Rader described the incident as “senseless” and urged drivers to exercise patience and restraint on the road. He stressed that the life lost was avoidable and called on the community to reflect on the consequences of aggressive driving behaviors.

The case remains under investigation, and authorities are seeking any additional information from witnesses to help piece together how one moment of roadway tension spiralled into a devastating tragedy.
