New Book Claims King Charles Never Connected With Meghan as Queen Camilla Became Her Quiet Defender

A new royal insider memoir is shedding light on long-rumored tensions within the royal household, alleging that King Charles struggled to understand Meghan Markle from the moment she entered the family — while Queen Camilla, often portrayed as a lightning rod for public criticism, privately emerged as one of Meghan’s earliest defenders.

According to the account, Charles kept a polite but noticeable distance, reportedly finding Meghan’s approach to royal life, media engagement and public advocacy difficult to reconcile with the traditions he valued. The book suggests he viewed her style as too direct and too American, leading to an emotional gap that only widened after her and Prince Harry’s departure from senior royal duties.

In contrast, Queen Camilla is described as more sympathetic. The memoir claims she recognized similarities between her own early press struggles and Meghan’s rapid descent into tabloid hostility. Behind closed doors, Camilla is said to have urged other family members to show more understanding, particularly during internal discussions when criticism of Meghan grew sharper. She allegedly intervened more than once when conversations became heated, reminding the household of the pressures Meghan faced.

The book also outlines how Meghan felt increasingly isolated as tensions escalated, believing that few within the institution fully grasped the cultural and personal challenges she encountered. While Camilla’s support reportedly did not change broader palace dynamics, it offered Meghan moments of reassurance during a period of intense scrutiny.

Buckingham Palace has not commented on the claims, and the memoir relies heavily on unnamed palace staff and longtime insiders. Still, the account adds another layer to the ongoing narrative of division within the royal family — and highlights the rarely discussed role of Queen Camilla in navigating some of the monarchy’s most fraught modern moments.
