To become president, you need the support of at least 270 of the 538 electoral college members. Even if all 195 electoral votes are included toward the popular vote total, the NPV still only includes 15 of the 50 states.
A Clinton elector stated on the Fox News show FIRST ON FOX that there was a conspiracy in Minnesota to “manipulate” the Electoral College in Trump’s favor.
Only one of three election-related proposals that came before the Minnesota Senate this week was approved by the Democratic majority.
Minnesota’s two sets of voting rules, which together comprise over 200 pages, are ludicrous. The Act lays out in great detail the relationship between the federal government and the individual states.
Apparently the NPV metric was included into the omnibus agreement without the Democrats’ knowledge or assent, as reported by Fox News Digital citing an anonymous source. It’s important to give careful thought to any proposed legislation that might have far-reaching consequences for several communities.
The Democratic Party in Minnesota places a premium on both party cohesion and legislative success.
Democratic National Committee Chair and Clinton supporter Jasper Hendricks has warned that the “NPV compact is dangerously unstable” since its aims are so similar to those of the protesters on January 6.
Like a large number of other Trump supporters, Hendricks voted for Trump in 2020. According to Hendricks, the amount of electoral college votes a state receives should be subject to change regardless of the popular vote. Hendricks claims that state governments can’t have any impact due to the Electoral College’s existing setup.
To paraphrase, “NPV can work without a majority of states participating, but it needs cooperation from all states,” and its usage would make our voting process “confusing and chaotic.” The unfortunate reality is that “it could be turned on or off for the whole country based on what one state legislature or court does.”
The leader of Save Our States, Trent England, claims that “hiding the National Popular Vote bill is an admission that it doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.” This is the current scenario, as reported by Fox News Online.
There is evidence that NPV advocates are leveraging DFL lawmakers to further an unproven and maybe unlawful theory.
“NPV is nothing more than an attempt to give states like California more control over Minnesota’s electoral votes than the voters who actually live in Minnesota,” said one expert. The Electoral College is to blame for this, since it would continue to function until it is abolished.
English claims that “NPV lets state officials come up with their own versions of a national vote total” and that “the NPV compact says nothing about what would happen if there was a dispute or how a national recount would work.”
“NPV is a ticking time bomb” for England since it will make voting more difficult in the future. This is done so that there are more judicial bodies to make rulings in the event of an electoral dispute.
Since Save Our States started, nobody has ever dared to dispute the Electoral College’s authority. In 2009, England formed the organization to ensure the continuity of the current system of separate states and to ensure that all citizens had a say in national politics. The coastal elite media’s unwavering backing for the Republican Party has turned off many would-be Democratic voters in the interior.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Mike Freiberg, a Democrat who represents Washington state in the House, said, “The NPV bill was fully vetted in a committee hearing.” The NPV bill was introduced to the state legislature on February 1.
As far as Freiberg is concerned, the NPV rule is still in effect since the House did not vote to repeal it. The NPV calculation relied on information provided by both governments.
Liberals are more receptive to the use of NPV now than they were after the 2016 election, when Clinton won the popular vote but Trump won the Electoral College.
The winner of a state’s popular vote also wins that state’s electoral votes.
The Electoral College is described in detail in Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution. Each state’s voters decide who is eligible to vote in their election. Each electoral college will have the same number of votes under this arrangement.
The winning candidate usually gets more votes than any of the other contenders. All states except Maine and Nebraska have their votes counted.
In 29 states and the District of Columbia, electors must cast their ballots for their home state’s presidential candidate. The Supreme Court will rule that voters have no choice but to reject a candidate who has lied to them by 2020.
No instances of vote-tampering have been detected since 2016. That’s the lowest number we’ve ever seen. In the previous election, in 1988, there was vote fraud. One individual did not cast a ballot in the 2000 presidential election.
There were fewer persons participating in the NPV transaction in states with a lower population density.
If one believes the Electoral College may be manipulated by “faithless electors” or other methods, this prospect may appeal to them.
A majority of the 538 electoral votes are required for election as president. Overall, NPV has the support of 195 people in 15 states.
With the inclusion of Minnesota, there are now 205 states in the United States.
One political party may remain in power for decades if several states adopted NPV without simultaneously implementing rank-choice voting.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York congresswoman and leader of the Democratic Socialist “Squad,” has long called for abolishing the Electoral College. This is also why the NPV favors national uniformity.
Democratic Senate Elections Committee chairman Jim Carlson did not respond to several calls from Fox News’ digital crew.
