A groundbreaking three-part documentary series titled “Guerrera” has been released, shedding light on the significant contributions of female U.S. soldiers in combat roles. Available on platforms such as Amazon, YouTube, and Google TV, the series delves into the experiences of women who served alongside elite military units during the War on Terror.
The series focuses on the Cultural Support Team (CST) program, which integrated female soldiers with special operations units like Delta Force and the Army Rangers. These women were tasked with engaging local women and children in Afghanistan and Iraq to gather critical intelligence on terrorist activities. Their involvement was pivotal in addressing information gaps and enhancing mission effectiveness.
“Guerrera” is dedicated to Capt. Jennifer Moreno, a CST member who, along with three Army Rangers, lost her life during Operation Objective Ares in Afghanistan in October 2013. The series also honors 1st Lt. Ashley White, the first CST member killed in action in 2011, highlighting the sacrifices and challenges faced by these trailblazing women.
The documentary arrives amidst ongoing debates regarding the role of women in combat positions. Recently, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth expressed reservations about women serving in combat roles, though he later acknowledged that with appropriate standards, women meeting those criteria should be allowed to serve. Despite these discussions, the 2013 policy lifting the ban on women in combat remains in effect.
“Guerrera” offers an in-depth look into the evolution of women’s roles in the military, showcasing their resilience, dedication, and the critical impact they have had on modern warfare.
