According to the Department of Justice, Senator Bob Menendez (Democrat of New Jersey) and his wife Nadine have been accused on accusations related to taking bribes. The indictment of Menendez, who has served in the Senate since 2006 and is now the head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, follows an investigation into allegations of corruption involving Menendez.

Menendez is being accused of conspiring to conduct bribery, honest services fraud, and extortion under the guise of official right. These are the allegations that have been brought against him. Indictment says that Senator Menendez and his wife had a corrupt connection with New Jersey businesspeople who reportedly provided the senator bribes totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars. The indictment also alleges that Menendez’s wife was involved in the bribery scheme.

Menendez is also accused of authoring a letter to other senators urging them to support releasing a hold on $300 million in military assistance to Egypt. This letter is said to have been produced in cooperation with Menendez’s wife and the businesspeople in issue, and it is believed to have been sent to other senators.

Menendez has been in legal hot water before, so this is not the first time he’s been in this situation. In 2015, he was charged on counts of bribery for allegedly taking gifts and favors from a Florida physician in return for political favors. These allegations were made public after he was arrested. However, he was not found guilty because the judge presiding over his case declared a mistrial.

Menendez has also been accused of engaging in sexual activity with minors working as prostitutes in the Dominican Republic; however, no formal charges have been brought against him in this regard.

The senator, who has been embroiled in a number of controversies during his tenure in office, is in even deeper legal difficulty as a result of the indictment that has been brought against both he and his wife.
