Not all Republicans are happy about Kevin McCarthy’s decision to run for Speaker of the House.

Currently, the Speaker of the House is Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), but Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), the head of the House Republican caucus, has stated his intention to run against Pelosi.

There wasn’t as much of a red wave as many had predicted, but it looks like the Republicans will take the House. McCarthy, who has been a representative since 2007, wrote a letter of congratulations to his new colleagues on Wednesday, in which he congratulated them on their “small wins” and asked for their help going forward.

I won’t stop working until this majority realizes its full potential. I will listen as much as I speak, and rather than trying to impose my will from on high, I will work to develop consensus from the ground up. That’s why it’s crucial that we utilize the collective intelligence of our conference to elect capable leaders. I encourage you to contact me whenever you have questions or concerns as we collaborate to achieve our goals.

Pelosi has led the House Democrats for the past twenty years, paving the way for her to become the first female Speaker of the House. She was the House Speaker twice: once between the Bush and Obama administrations (2007-2010) and once again between the Trump and Clinton administrations (2019). The congresswoman said prior to the elections that following the recent attack on her husband, Paul Pelosi, at their San Francisco home, she would consider retirement if the Democrats lost the House.

It’s possible that McCarthy made an early effort to win over his coworkers because he wasn’t universally adored by them. According to a CNN report from earlier this week, if McCarthy doesn’t please the House Freedom Caucus, more than two dozen members of that group will vote against him. According to a story in The Daily Caller, Fox News host Tucker Carlson will be the featured Speaker at the organization’s forthcoming new member orientation this Thursday night.

McCarthy promised to “soon reopen the Capitol and abolish the Democrat proxy voting and remote work schemes that have wrought horrible damage on our institution” and claimed he would “fight toe-to-toe” with the Biden administration.

McCarthy stated daily, “We shall start and conclude each day with a single focus: serving the needs of our fellow citizens.” Their vote is now our vote, and we will not be hesitant to break new ground to ensure that you have access to a robust economy, a secure nation, a bright future built on individual liberty, and a government that takes your concerns seriously. That Vice President Biden will agree to support those goals is something I pray for constantly. If that happens, he can be confident that we will bring our cause to the people of the United States in every state. In order to compare our plan with the Democrats’ and set the stage for a Republican to win the White House in 2024, we will be spending a great deal of time outside of Washington, D.C., and on the ground during the next two years.

The GOP’s hopes of retaking the House have been bolstered by victories in swing states like Florida and New York. NBC News’s count shows that many prominent Senate candidates from the existing party were defeated on Tuesday. It will take a runoff election in Georgia in 2020 between Democrat Raphael Warnock and Republican Herschel Walker after the GOP’s Don Bolduc and Mehmet Oz were both defeated.

When the predicted “red wave” of voters didn’t materialize, Republican leaders took some heat. Ex-Daily Wire editor Ben Shapiro claims that “the Republican leadership class, paralyzed by the Trump phenomenon, failed to deliver any leadership at all” in reaction to Trump’s rise to power. With the exception of DeSantis, who led the Republican Party, ran a superb campaign, and organized a red wave in Florida, the Democrats held all statewide offices.
