During rush hour on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, one of the nation’s busiest bridges, a bizarre and alarming incident unfolded on Tuesday. According to the California Highway Patrol, a driver called 911 to report that another driver had displayed a gun while on the I-80 span, which crosses the San Francisco Bay, at approximately 4:40 p.m.
The situation escalated as the woman stopped her vehicle in the middle of her lane, stepped out with a knife, and started shouting at other drivers. She then returned to her car and continued driving towards Oakland. However, she stopped again at a toll plaza, this time exiting the car entirely, now armed with a gun and inexplicably unclothed, as reported by officers.
In a disturbing turn of events, the naked woman began firing her weapon randomly at the occupied cars behind her, causing significant panic and danger on the bridge. Fortunately, no injuries were reported despite the reckless actions.
Video footage captured the woman walking along the shoulder, firing her gun into the air before law enforcement officers arrived on the scene. They managed to de-escalate the situation and convince her to surrender her weapon, leading to her arrest without any further incident.
The suspect’s motive remains unclear, and she was subsequently placed on a mental health hold in a local hospital. Upon her release, she will face unspecified charges for her dangerous actions.
As a result of this shocking incident, the eastbound section of the bridge was closed for over an hour, causing considerable delays throughout the evening for the approximately 40 million people who traverse this bridge annually.
