NY AG Letitia James Stuns by Skipping Trump Trial

In the ongoing civil trial involving former President Donald Trump, New York Attorney General Letitia James has sparked debate with her noticeable absence on Thursday. This follows her prominent presence at the trial that has been ongoing in New York City since early November. The trial, which centers on allegations that Trump, his family, and the Trump Organization misrepresented asset values to banks and others, is set to see the defense start its arguments on Monday.

James, a Democrat who initiated legal action against Trump and his company last year, has been an observable participant in the courtroom events. Her last sighting was on Wednesday, the same day Ivanka Trump testified, claiming no involvement in the preparation or discussions of her father’s financial statements, a key issue in this bench trial.

Media and legal commentators have noted the irregularity of James’ attendance. Kerri Kupec Urbahn, Fox News Legal Editor, commented on “Fox & Friends,” emphasizing the unusual nature of an Attorney General’s daily presence at a trial. Urbahn suggested that James’ recurrent courtroom appearances, funded by taxpayers, and her campaign statements against Trump indicate a political motivation behind her actions, leading to perceptions of a politically charged pursuit.

The trial took a pause on Friday due to Veterans Day, but James was seen at the courthouse multiple times last week and this week. In a recent statement, James accused Trump of continuous dishonesty, asserting that the evidence of financial fraud is clear and has legal repercussions.

Additionally, James released a video message on Wednesday, confidently stating the evidence and prior judicial rulings support the accusations of repeated fraud against Trump and his organization. She expressed assurance in the strength of the remaining case.

Meanwhile, Trump’s legal team has made a significant move, requesting the judge for a directed verdict to conclude the trial. They argue that the Attorney General’s office has failed to substantiate its accusations, citing a lack of concrete evidence of fraud, absence of identifiable victims, and no covenant breaches.

This development marks a pivotal moment in the trial, reflecting the complex interplay of legal strategies, political implications, and public perception in high-profile legal battles.
