Federal prosecutors in Virginia have formally charged New York Attorney General Letitia James with bank fraud and making false statements, alleging she misrepresented her intent when purchasing a home in Norfolk in 2020.
According to the indictment, James claimed the property would serve as a secondary residence to secure favorable loan terms, but she is accused of instead using it as a rental investment — saving nearly $19,000 in mortgage costs as a result.
James has denied wrongdoing, calling the charges politically motivated and framed as retaliation for her past legal actions, including major litigation against former President Trump.
Her first court appearance is scheduled in Norfolk federal court on October 24.
