A recent incident involving a black graduate from LaGuardia Community College in Queens has sparked a debate over her actions during the ceremony. Kadia Iman, a digital content creator and OnlyFans model, defended herself against critics who labeled her as the “bad guy” for taking the microphone from a white educator who allegedly snubbed her name.
Iman took to social media to address the backlash, stating that she is not ashamed and reminding everyone that she is a black woman in America. She firmly asserted that she did nothing wrong and refused to be gaslit into believing otherwise. She expressed that her actions were motivated by a desire to stand up for girls who look like her.
The incident, which was captured on video and shared on TikTok, showed Iman forcefully grabbing the microphone from the white woman during the graduation ceremony at Queens College. She claimed that her moment was taken away, and she wanted the focus to be on her achievement. Iman then dropped the microphone and left the stage.
Although the original TikTok video has been deleted, it continues to circulate online, garnering millions of views. Maria Matteo, a spokeswoman for Queens College, confirmed that Iman was present at LaGuardia Community College’s graduation ceremony held on the Queens College campus. The spokesperson for LaGuardia Community College did not respond to inquiries about the incident.
Iman later shared a follow-up video, explaining that she was interrupted while stating her name before going on stage. She noticed that the white educator had rushed through the names of black individuals, which compelled her to take action and reclaim her moment. Iman emphasized that she didn’t mean to cause trouble or ruin anyone’s day, but she felt the need to assert herself after working hard to graduate.
Many TikTok users rallied behind Iman, expressing support and understanding for her actions. They commended her for standing up for those who felt uncomfortable and applauded her achievement. However, conservative political commentator Matt Walsh criticized Iman, calling her uninteresting and unimpressive. He made disparaging remarks about her intelligence and criticized the quality of graduates from universities.
The incident has sparked discussions about racial dynamics, individual agency, and the right to be recognized and celebrated. While opinions on the matter vary, it highlights ongoing conversations about equity and representation in educational institutions.
