NYC Debate Erupts—“He’s Literally Never Had a Job” Slung at Mamdani

During Thursday night’s New York City mayoral debate, former Governor Andrew Cuomo assailed Zohran Mamdani’s résumé, stating that Mamdani “literally has never had a job.” The bold attack came amid a tense confrontation over experience, leadership, and the stakes of running America’s largest city.

Cuomo argued that the mayor’s role demands executive know-how, managing a $115 billion budget and overseeing 300,000 employees. He questioned Mamdani’s readiness, citing his background of internships and limited administrative experience.

Mamdani fired back, pointing to Cuomo’s record during the pandemic and asserting that integrity, not legacy titles, should define public service. He pledged transparency, accountability, and a drive to work for all New Yorkers—even those skeptical of his path to politics.

Other flashpoints of the debate included policing strategy: Cuomo favored increasing police numbers, while Mamdani proposed bolstering mental health support and revised outreach tactics in crime “hot zones.”
And on the national guard issue, all candidates vowed to reject any deployment of troops to New York City under federal orders — a clear rebuke of potential presidential overreach.

As the bruising face-off concluded, audiences and media pundits dubbed it a pivotal moment in the race—sharpening the divide between outsider ambition and experienced governance.
