A 25-year-old woman has been sentenced to two years in prison and three years’ supervised release after admitting she deliberately drove the wrong way down Park Avenue and struck a New York City police officer. The incident occurred in January 2024 while the officer was on duty at a scene north of East 71st Street; the collision left him with a fractured leg.
Court records show the driver, under the influence of marijuana, ignored instructions, accelerated toward the officer and yelled expletives as she drove into the blockade. After the crash, the driver told investigators she acted “on purpose.” During her plea hearing in June, she accepted responsibility for second-degree assault.
The officer’s union reacted with strong criticism, saying the sentence was too lenient for an attack on law enforcement. They called the outcome a dangerous precedent and urged tougher deterrents for crimes against officers.
