Socialist mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani found himself fleeing through Manhattan’s Foley Square under security protection after a persistent protester trailed him, screaming “antisemite” and demanding he denounce Hezbollah and Sharia law.
The dramatic confrontation unfolded during a rally in support of New York Attorney General Letitia James, who is facing federal charges. Mamdani had been speaking to a gathering of supporters when a man approached and began shouting accusations about his record and beliefs. Security quickly intervened, guiding Mamdani toward a waiting SUV.
The protester followed, continuing to shout as cameras rolled. At one point, a campaign staffer pushed the individual away from the vehicle while Mamdani was ushered inside. The candidate himself did not respond to onlookers’ calls and left the scene without comment.
Observers noted that the protester was particularly focused on Mamdani’s past statements about Israel and criticisms of U.S. foreign policy, demanding clarity on his position. The incident has already sparked debate over the candidate’s handling of questions about international affairs and accusations of bias.
