A New York Police Department sergeant has been found guilty in connection with an incident during a pursuit of a suspected drug offender in the Bronx where he was recorded throwing a cooler at the fleeing suspect.

The conviction follows a trial in which prosecutors argued that the sergeant’s actions went beyond acceptable use of force while chasing the individual on foot. Body-worn camera footage and witness testimony were presented as part of the evidence leading to the verdict.

The incident occurred when officers attempted to apprehend a person suspected of drug-related offenses. During the pursuit, the sergeant was seen picking up a cooler and throwing it in the direction of the suspect, a move that drew scrutiny from both internal investigators and civilian observers.

Following the conviction, the sergeant now faces sentencing by a judge, where potential penalties will be determined based on the nature of the offense and relevant legal guidelines. Details regarding possible disciplinary actions within the NYPD have not been disclosed, though internal review processes typically run parallel to criminal proceedings.

The case has drawn attention to questions about acceptable tactics during foot pursuits and the boundaries of force for law-enforcement officers. Police officials have said they respect the judicial outcome and will continue to emphasize proper training and accountability in use-of-force situations.
