The death of John Barnett, a former Boeing employee who gained notoriety for his whistleblower activities, has been officially attributed to natural causes, according to a coroner’s report released this week. Barnett, who had previously raised safety concerns about Boeing’s production practices, passed away unexpectedly, leading to speculation regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.

The coroner’s findings have clarified that Barnett died from complications related to a severe infection, ruling out foul play or any connection to his whistleblower activities. The report detailed that the infection led to systemic organ failure, ultimately causing his demise.

Barnett’s whistleblowing had highlighted alleged negligence in the manufacturing processes at Boeing, particularly with the 787 Dreamliner, which he claimed compromised passenger safety due to cost-cutting measures. His allegations had prompted investigations and drew significant media attention, casting a spotlight on safety standards within the aerospace industry.

The official cause of Barnett’s death as stated by the coroner’s office has brought some closure to his family and colleagues, who had been deeply concerned about potential retaliatory actions due to his outspoken criticism of Boeing. The findings underscore the natural causes behind his passing, separate from his professional controversies.
