The House Oversight Committee and Judiciary Committee have officially scheduled a deposition for Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, for next week. This move comes despite Hunter Biden’s reluctance to comply with the subpoena demanding his testimony in a private session.

James Comer, R-Ky., Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has subpoenaed Hunter Biden for a closed-door deposition scheduled for December 13. However, Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, informed Comer and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, on Wednesday that Biden prefers a public hearing for his testimony.

Fox News Digital has reported obtaining the official notice for the deposition, set for 9:30 a.m. on December 13. The document, titled “Deposition of Robert Hunter Biden,” was posted by the committees on Thursday.

Last week, Lowell initially communicated Hunter Biden’s desire for a public hearing to the committee. Comer and Jordan responded by emphasizing that Hunter Biden must adhere to the subpoena for a private deposition. They assured that a transcript of his testimony would be made public shortly afterward and promised a subsequent public hearing.

In a recent letter, Lowell reiterated Hunter Biden’s stance, stating his client would only testify in a public setting. “Mr. Biden is opting for a hearing to ensure transparency and truth, countering the committee’s history of distorting facts in closed-door sessions,” Lowell said. He expressed readiness to finalize the hearing’s schedule.

In response, Comer and Jordan warned of potential contempt of Congress charges if Biden fails to appear for the December 13 deposition. “There is no ‘choice’ in this matter; the subpoenas obligate Mr. Biden to attend the deposition on the set date,” they wrote.

This development sparked criticism from House Oversight Committee ranking member Jamie Raskin, D-Md. Raskin accused Comer of preferring a private testimony to misquote Biden and expressed skepticism about the committee’s intentions. “Comer doesn’t want the truth—and can’t handle it,” Raskin stated.
