When Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) is up for reelection in 2024, Ohio Republicans will be looking to replace him.
A rematch for the Senate nomination is being considered by state senator Matt Dolan (R-OH), who was defeated by senator-elect J.D. Vance this year.
When Ohio Republican party officials and activists gave Dolan their enthusiastic support, he wrote a letter to county chairs to announce his candidacy for the Senate.
There is only a little time for soul-searching on our hands. The year 2024 will arrive before we realize it, and much is to be accomplished. Dolan urged his readers to “make sure Joe Biden and Sherrod Brown get booted from office.”
Dolan recently told Fox News that he has not yet decided and is instead concentrating on what it would take to defeat Brown.
Is it what the kids need? Is there a fire in my gut to lead and serve? In addition, will my efforts be noticed? If those three conditions are met, I will decide,” Dolan added.
Dolan is worried by the lack of a crimson wave that many predicted would occur after the Midterm Elections. Reiterating that Brown had a “very liberal” agenda, he urged Republicans to look forward rather than backward.
This Thursday, Brown told reporters that he plans to run for reelection.
There are other Republicans besides Dolan who are running to fill Brown’s seat. Frank LaRose, the current secretary of state, is seeking reelection this year after deciding against a run for the Senate. He is a Democrat.
By 2024, Democrats will have to defend three Senate seats in Ohio, West Virginia, and Montana that former President Trump won.
