Sarah Hughes, who won the gold medal in figure skating at the 2002 Winter Olympics, has stated that she will not be running for the 4th Congressional District seat in New York. Hughes earned the gold medal in figure skating at those Olympics. In May, Hughes submitted the necessary papers for a possible candidacy for public office. Anthony D’Esposito, a Republican from Long Island, is the one who presently occupies the position.
Hughes announced his decision to forego a run for Congress via a post he made on social media, in which he said, “For those interested, I have decided not to run for Congress at this time.” She voiced her exasperation with the condition of politics and politicians in recent years, and she underscored her unwavering support for lowering the prices of healthcare, encouraging the effective use of tax funds, and putting in place economic policies that encourage development.
Hughes, who had only turned 16 years old when she won her Olympic gold, proceeded to further her studies by receiving a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to her present studies at Stanford University for an MBA, she spent the previous three years working as an associate at the corporate legal firm Proskauer Rose, which is situated in Manhattan.
