Representative Ilhan Omar has called on the public to record Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents during their operations, saying video documentation is needed to increase transparency and accountability following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis.
Omar made the appeal during a television interview, arguing that ICE agents often operate in unmarked vehicles and without clear identification, making it difficult for the public to know who is conducting enforcement actions.
She also criticized the ICE agent involved in Good’s death, questioning why the officer positioned himself in front of her moving vehicle before opening fire. Omar said the circumstances raise serious concerns about training and judgment and should be closely examined as part of the investigation.
Her comments come as the Minneapolis shooting continues to spark protests and national debate over federal immigration enforcement and the use of force by ICE agents.
