Oregon police are seeking for a man they claim deliberately set fire to a Target store in order to steal merchandise while the business was evacuated.
On April 22, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office reported on Facebook that someone had deliberately set fire to the toy section of a Target store in Salem, Oregon.
It was revealed by deputies that the shoplifter had done this to draw attention away from himself as he made his getaway via the store’s rear exit.
At 1:25 p.m., the suspect is believed to have entered the store, and by 1:33 p.m., he or she had started the fire, before fleeing out the back door.
The Sheriff’s Office in Marion County is looking for the public’s assistance in identifying the perpetrator.
“Deputy Tribby heard that several people were filming the fire, and he wants you to get in touch with him if you have any more footage of the suspect and the fire,” the post read.
Surveillance footage from inside a Target store shows a man with a black hat and sunglasses making his way through the store’s aisles. The police department disseminated the footage.
The discussion also included a black shirt and blue jeans.
Poster text reads, “If anyone recognizes the suspect in the photos, please call Deputy Tribby at 503-798-7384.”
