Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson shared a surreal encounter during her acceptance of the Leopard Club Award at Switzerland’s Locarno Film Festival.
In a candid and humorous recollection, Thompson said that on the very day her divorce from actor Kenneth Branagh was finalized, she received a call from Donald Trump while filming Primary Colors. Trump reportedly invited her to stay at one of his properties and have dinner. Initially thinking it was a prank, Thompson responded with grace, saying, “That’s very sweet… I’ll get back to you.”
The actress later quipped that their brief connection could have altered the course of history—joking that had she accepted, things might have turned out very differently. At the time of the call, Trump had recently ended his marriage to Marla Maples, and Thompson, now married to Greg Wise, added levity to the story by speculating Trump may have had aides looking for a “suitable” newly single companion.
