Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her husband, Paul, reportedly generated in excess of $130 million in stock profits during her nearly four-decade career in Congress, representing an approximate 16,930% return on their original holdings.
When Pelosi entered Congress in 1987, the couple’s disclosed stock portfolio ranged between $610,000 and $785,000. Today, estimates place the value of those same holdings at around $133.7 million. By comparison, the Dow Jones Industrial Average achieved approximately a 2,300% return over the same period—highlighting the portfolio’s extraordinary outperformance.
Much of the investment gain came through individual holdings in tech giants such as Apple, NVIDIA, Salesforce, and Netflix, among others. The couple’s net worth has been estimated to exceed $280 million, a considerable increase from the approximately $3 million reported when Pelosi first took office.
While Pelosis’ trading success has drawn praise from some financial circles for its performance, it has also reignited ethical questions about stock trading by sitting lawmakers and their spouses. Federal legislation aimed at curbing such activity has resurfaced as public scrutiny grows.
