The 82-year-old husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Paul, was beaten with a hammer by an intruder who broke into their San Francisco home early on Friday morning, sending him to the hospital, according to sources.
According to a statement sent by her spokesperson, Drew Hammill, the House speaker was not there at the time of her husband’s “violent assault” at the couple’s $6 million home.
Hammill added, “The attacker is in jail, and the motive for the crime is under investigation.” The hospital treatment Mr. Pelosi is getting is top-notch, and he is expected to recover fully. In the period, the Speaker was not in San Francisco.
According to CNN’s reporting, the attacker tried to tie up Paul Pelosi and kept asking, “Where’s Nancy?” According to the complaint, the attacker told police he was “waiting for Nancy” when officers arrived at the home.
Law enforcement authorities confirmed to CNN that they had the 42-year-old suspect in custody. The offender entered the home through the back door between 2:30 and 3:30 in the morning, according to two individuals cited by the media site. The Pelosis “appreciate the first responders and medical professionals involved and desire privacy at this time,” Hammill said.
Staff from the field office “got on the scene, while a group of officers from the Department’s Threat Assessment Section was also dispatched at the same time from the East Coast to assist the FBI and the San Francisco Police with a joint investigation,” according to a statement released by the U.S. Capitol Police.
The Pelosi mansion is worth millions and has been the subject of political demonstrations, but no one knows why. Early last year, protestors put a severed pig’s head outside the garage along with spray-painted messages calling for a guaranteed minimum income and the suspension of rent.
Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, issued a statement in which she claimed that President Joe Biden had contacted the Speaker “to offer his solidarity following this awful incident” and that he was praying for Mr. Pelosi and his family.
As a result of the city’s persistent issues with homelessness, public safety, drug usage, and violent crime, as well as the ineffectiveness of law enforcement, voters in San Francisco recalled District Attorney Chesa Boudin. Since California lowered the punishment for stealing under $950 worth of products, several companies have departed the area.
Earlier this year, Pelosi made headlines when he was jailed for drunk driving after he crashed his Porsche into a Jeep after lunch at a California restaurant. Instead of going to jail, he will have to pay hundreds of dollars in penalties, take a three-month-long drunk driving course, and have a breathalyzer device installed in his car before it can start.
Pelosi has been attacked for stock wagers that appear to predate critical federal laws of her investments as the owner of a real estate and venture capital consulting business. To circumvent export limitations on Nvidia’s goods to China and Russia, he sold shares he had acquired via option exercises shortly before lawmakers enacted a multibillion-dollar semiconductor incentives package.
They’ve been married since 1963 and have four kids together: Paul, Paul Jr., Peter, and Nancy.
