Jack Teixeira of the Massachusetts Air National Guard is accused of using a government computer to look for “leaks” in secret intelligence information.
After the news came out, the U.S. military intelligence leak suspect is said to have looked for the word “leak” in secret intelligence files.
On Friday, 21-year-old Jack Teixeira of the Massachusetts Air National Guards was charged with unauthorized retention and transmission of national defense information and willful retention of classified documents. He is accused of leaking documents that contain “sensitive and highly-classified material,” as described by the Department of Defense.
A memo from the FBI says that Teixeira looked for the word “leak” on his government computer soon after hearing about the leaks.
The affidavit says that on April 6, 2023, TEIXEIRA “used his government computer to search classified intelligence reporting for the word ‘leak.'” This service can keep track of what people are looking for on its secret networks. Reporting on the Government Information came to the public’s attention for the first time on or around April 6, 2023.
The FBI says that Teixeira tried to get secret information about the intelligence community’s idea about who was behind the leak.
A member of a social media platform was interviewed by the FBI on Monday. The member told a special agent that a person, later identified as Teixeira, started posting “what appeared to be classified information” on the platform in December 2022, according to a criminal complaint that Fox News got on Friday.
The person said that the posts were made on a site where people can talk about “geopolitical affairs and current and historical wars.”
On Friday just after 10 a.m. local time, the counts against Teixeira were read to him in federal court in Boston. He was handcuffed and wearing a khaki jail outfit.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts says that he did not make a plea, so he will be held until Wednesday, when he will have a hearing about his arrest.
The FBI arrested Teixeira at his home in North Dighton, Massachusetts, on Thursday. He has now shown up in federal court.
Friday, Vice President Biden said that the President had told the military and intelligence services to “take steps to further secure and limit the distribution of sensitive information.” He also said that our national security team is working closely with our partners and friends.
