The demands of the task committee coincide with a request to organize a “walkout” on campus.
The LGTBQ task group at the University of Pittsburgh has made a number of demands, including providing transgender students with greater access to housing and healthcare.
Along with a request to arrange a “walkout” on Tuesday, the task force posted their demands on Instagram.
These hubs should not be buried deep in the organizational structure. The recruited LGBTQIA+ employees MUST be given some discretion in regards to teamwork, programming, and the pooling of resources. For the task force, “departmental/division gate keeping BS” can no longer be tolerated.
The task force requested that the University of Pittsburgh establish three fully staffed, on-campus resource centers for the LGTQIA+, disability, and BIPOC communities; increase trans-inclusive health care and housing; provide additional medical leave for trans-related health care; and have trained mental health providers de-escalate crises on campus.
“No more cops for mental health crises!” they said.
The committee concluded by requesting that the school “provide a minimum pay of $20 an hour and matching rate of inflation +1% for all university workers.”
Recently, 12-time All-American swimmer Riley Gaines spoke out against the mayhem that ensued when protestors sought to cancel her planned speech at the University of Pittsburgh.
When Gaines voiced her opposition to transgender athlete Lia Thomas competing in women’s sports, she gained widespread notoriety. Many have cautioned that biological males have a distinct edge over biological females while competing, including former Olympic athlete Nancy Hogshead-Makar.
Gaines, who is also a spokesman for the Independent Women’s Forum, posted a video of protestors at the University of Pittsburgh, where she was scheduled to speak at an event organized by Turning Point USA, demonstrating their opposition to her appearance.
La’Tasha D. Mayes, a Democrat serving in the state legislature, criticized University of Pittsburgh Chancellor Patrick Gallagher for allowing a forum during which transgender ideology will be debated.
Gallagher fought for the speakers’ freedom to visit campus.
