The catch and release program put in place has long been criticized because many of the illegals who are released, go into hiding and don’t show up for their court dates.
It’s like a get out of jail free card. Trump has given the Department of Homeland Security a mandate to name all of the measures they have taken or are in the process of ending catch and release.
He is giving them 45 days and other agencies will do the same. He is also having the DHS locate and evaluate facilities near the border that can be used or renovated that can be used as detention facilities.
Sarah Sanders, White House spokeswoman chided Democrats who try to take the side of illegal aliens over American citizens:
“The safety and security of the American people is the President’s highest priority, and he will keep his promise to protect our country and to ensure that our laws are respected.
At the same time, the President continues to call on congressional Democrats to cease their staunch opposition to border security and to stop blocking measures that are vital to the safety and security of the United States.”
The Hill reports:
The memo signed by Trump orders the Department of Homeland Security, in coordination with other agencies, to submit a report to the president within 45 days “detailing all measures that their respective departments have pursued or are pursuing to expeditiously end ‘catch and release’ practices.”
The report instructs departments to share information on any contracts to construct or operate detention facilities along the border as well as steps taken to assign asylum officers at detention facilities, among other measures.
This is just another promise that the people’s president is keeping. Can you honestly say that any of the other 16 candidates would have done as much as quickly as Donald Trump?
The next 6 1/2 years will only get better.
