A tragic early-morning incident in Elmhurst, Queens, ended with the death of 16-year-old Jhoanny Gomez-Alvarez after a confrontation with a 38-year-old man. The altercation began outside a bar, where the man allegedly made lewd remarks to the teen, sparking an argument involving her boyfriend, mother, and another woman.
In the aftermath, the suspect reportedly got into his 2009 Chevy Suburban, drove onto the sidewalk, and fatally pinned the girl against a pillar. The teen was declared dead at the scene. Her 32-year-old mother was also struck and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver, described as highly intoxicated, attempted to flee and crashed into a parked car nearby. He was arrested on the spot by police. Murder charges are now expected to be filed.
