Renowned rapper 50 Cent has expressed skepticism over New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ recent initiative to distribute $53 million in pre-paid credit cards to migrant families. Through an Instagram post, the music mogul voiced his confusion and concern, questioning the logic behind the program and subtly hinting at former President Donald Trump as a potential solution.
The city’s strategy, aimed at aiding asylum seekers temporarily housed at the Roosevelt Hotel, plans to commence with 500 families, providing them with substantial financial support for food expenses. A family of four, under this scheme, could receive close to $1,000 monthly.
50 Cent, born Curtis James Jackson III, has been a significant figure in the music industry since the early 2000s and has since branched out into various business ventures. His post on social media, sharing a snapshot of the program’s coverage, reflects his perplexity at the city’s approach to migrant assistance, stating, “Can’t explain this I’m stuck maybe TRUMP is the answer.”
Despite his previous endorsements of Trump, mainly driven by concerns over tax increases under the Biden administration, 50 Cent’s commentary sheds light on the broader discussions surrounding the efficacy and implications of such financial assistance programs.
City Hall representatives have yet to respond to inquiries regarding the rapper’s remarks. As debates over the program continue, 50 Cent’s stance highlights the diverse opinions on how best to support the migrant community amidst ongoing challenges.
