Recent financial disclosures from the Archewell Foundation, established by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, reveal significant contributions to organizations and individuals with ties to the Democratic Party. These allocations have ignited discussions regarding the couple’s political neutrality and the potential implications of their philanthropic choices.

    Key Financial Allocations:

    • Jiore Craig: In 2023, the foundation allocated $146,500 to Jiore Craig, a media strategist recognized for her expertise in countering disinformation. Craig’s professional background includes roles at Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, a firm noted for its work with Democratic campaigns.
    • Women’s Wellness Space: A notable donation of $250,000 was directed to the Women’s Wellness Space, a Pennsylvania-based initiative founded by Ashley Biden, daughter of President Joe Biden. This center is dedicated to supporting women who have experienced trauma.
    • Markup News Inc.: Archewell contributed $90,000 to Markup News Inc., a New York-based nonprofit organization. This entity receives funding from various sources, including contributions from individuals associated with Democratic causes.

These financial decisions have prompted scrutiny from various quarters. Nile Gardiner, a representative from the Heritage Foundation, has advocated for a congressional review of the foundation’s donations, emphasizing the importance of maintaining political impartiality, especially given the couple’s royal affiliations.

In response to the discussions, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stated that their philanthropic efforts are nonpartisan. The spokesperson highlighted that the foundation’s support for initiatives like Ashley Biden’s nonprofit, which focuses on women’s mental health, and the engagement of consultants specializing in digital safety, should not be interpreted as political endorsements.

The Archewell Foundation’s financial activities continue to be a focal point of public discourse, raising questions about the intersection of philanthropy, political associations, and the responsibilities tied to their public personas.
