The investigation against Florida Congressman Cory Mills is ongoing in connection with an alleged assault incident that happened in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday. A call was received by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) in the 1300 block of Maryland Avenue, Southwest, at around 1:15 p.m. It is thought that the claimed incident happened inside Mills’ home.
In a formal statement, a representative for Representative Mills claimed his innocence, saying, “Law enforcement was requested to settle a private issue at Congressman Mills’ home this week. Congressman Mills strongly rejects any misconduct at all and is certain that any inquiry will swiftly resolve this issue.
Although the MPD has started an ongoing criminal investigation, they have not yet released any additional information. MPD leadership reviewed the matter as soon as they learned about it to make sure all protocols were followed. Overseeing the probe at the moment is the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau.
At a news briefing, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser spoke about the current internal review and stressed the significance of following departmental policies.
In response to the incident, Sarah Raviani, co-founder of Iranians for Trump and the person named in the police report, said there was no physical altercation and voiced concerns about possible political exploitation of the issue.
Since January 2023, Representative Mills, a distinguished combat veteran of the Army and the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Intelligence, has served as the representative for Florida’s 7th District. Seminole County and southern Volusia are among the regions included in his district.
Authorities have not given a date for the probe’s completion, and no charges have been brought as the investigation is still ongoing.
