The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has turned its attention to the Biden family, leading to a tense exchange during a White House press briefing.
A reporter from the New York Post, Steven Nelson, asked John Kirby, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, if he believed President Biden to be corrupt. Nelson referred to the ongoing investigation by the Republican-led House Oversight Committee into the Biden family’s international business dealings.
Nelson mentioned the committee’s efforts to obtain an FBI document allegedly detailing a criminal conspiracy involving Biden and a foreign individual, with money exchanged for policy decisions. He also referenced a recent poll indicating that a majority of voters believed the president was involved in an illegal influence-peddling scheme with his son, as well as the claims made by an IRS whistleblower regarding a potential obstruction in the investigation into Hunter Biden’s finances.
Kirby reacted with surprise and disbelief, shaking his head at the notion that the majority of Americans consider their president corrupt. He responded by stating that the president has addressed these allegations and dispelled any rumors surrounding them. He advised Nelson to seek information from the FBI regarding the whistleblower issue and the document in question.
If the FBI fails to comply with the demand for the document related to the alleged criminal conspiracy involving Biden, the House Oversight Committee Chairman, Rep. James Comer, will initiate contempt of Congress proceedings against the bureau. Comer had previously issued a subpoena for the file, which the FBI declined to provide, citing the need to protect their human source program.
The White House has criticized the committee’s investigation, dismissing it as politically motivated and lacking evidence. They maintain that President Biden has never interfered in his son’s business affairs.
A whistleblower, who reached out to Comer and Sen. Chuck Grassley, alleged that the FBI and the DOJ possess a document that provides a detailed account of the purported criminal scheme and its purpose. The committee’s investigation continues to unfold, raising questions about the Biden family’s international business ties and potential improprieties.
