Gaines has taken the lead in ensuring equality in women’s sports.
Former NCAA swimming standout Riley Gaines disagreed with what Brittney Griner had to say regarding transgender athletes.
In her first public appearance before the 2023 WNBA season, Phoenix Mercury star and transgender advocate Brittney Griner called it “a crime to separate someone for any reason.” This was in response to questions regarding state laws that prohibit transgender athletes from competing against other athletes of the same gender.
Given that the evident and substantial disparities between men and women don’t appear to matter, “Which NBA team would want @brittneygriner?””It hurts my heart to see strong, athletic women have such a low opinion of themselves,” Gaines tweeted on Sunday.
As in, “Brittney, if we’re going to talk about crimes,…”
On Thursday, Griner made her point clear.
Griner responded to a question from an ESPN reporter about whether or not she would advocate for transgender athletes by saying, “That’s high on the list of things I’ll fight for and speak out against.” “Everyone ought to get a go at it. Anyone should be free to come here and relax in the chairs. They shouldn’t worry about being attacked, restricted from being themselves, or being the center of attention.
“If I’m being completely honest, I don’t like the idea of excluding somebody for any reason. So, you can count on me to speak out against that bill and the others like it.
On Wednesday, the executive board of the Kansas State High School Activities Association mandated that schools check transgender students’ original birth certificates before determining which teams to allow them to play for.
Last week, the House voted to pass legislation to ensure the safety of female athletes. The objective is to discourage real males from doing sports traditionally played by women and girls.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) proclaimed, “Today is a great day for America, for fairness, for families, and most importantly, for female athletes.” House Republicans campaigned on a platform of increasing opportunities for women and girls in sports. We delivered on that guarantee today.
Vice President Joe Biden has pledged to veto the legislation if it reaches his desk.
In February of 2022, Griner was arrested trying to bring vape batteries with hash oil through the Moscow airport. After what many people are calling a “sham trial,” she was found guilty.
As part of an agreement to free alleged weapons dealer Viktor Bout, Russia released her in December.
