Ron DeSantis is not going to take California Governor Gavin Newsom’s insults lying down. The courageous DeSantis posted a video from the heart of San Francisco, revealing the awful truths he witnessed while traveling through what he described as a city that had lost its previous splendor.
The Florida governor’s animosity with Newsom is emblematic of a broader East Coast vs. West Coast rivalry, and it was a focal point of his recent campaign tour up the west coast, which included a fundraising event in Sacramento.
DeSantis said Newsom’s strategy is fundamentally faulty and went on to detail the upsetting events he saw in the city. He said that some homeless people used the sidewalks as a place to relieve themselves, while others injected heroin or smoked crack cocaine openly.
Newsom has been very vocal in his opposition to DeSantis and his actions in Florida. Earlier this year, he released an ad with the slogan “Don’t make America Florida” in an effort to discourage voters from selecting the Florida governor.
DeSantis’ campaign responded with identical language, sending out an email with a one-minute video titled “Don’t California Our Nation.”
DeSantis said to the camera as they walked around San Francisco, “We’re here in the once great city of San Francisco.” He then went on to bemoan the city’s demise, blaming communist policies and stressing the emigration that followed.
While Newsom claims that DeSantis advocates for extreme right-wing ideas, DeSantis counters that California’s laws are to blame for the state’s decline. For DeSantis, “the wreckage has been truly disheartening to witness” because of the state’s lack of criminal prosecution compared to other parts of the country. Many stores have been closed, and I’ve seen an increase in the number of suspicious people hanging around. Policy and leadership’s effects are made very obvious.”
Clearly, “they are getting it wrong here,” he said.
There’s been a huge migration from San Francisco to Florida in recent years, and it’s easy to see why. This craziness must stop. The sanity of our nation must be restored.
Since DeSantis entered the Republican presidential primary race last month, tensions between these two rival state leaders on the coast have escalated. Despite Newsom’s repeated denials of interest in running for governor, DeSantis dared him to enter the 2024 primary against President Joe Biden.
