Roseanne Barr has criticized what she calls media hypocrisies following Jimmy Kimmel’s return to late-night television after his suspension. In a post on X, she accused outlets of applying unequal standards when it comes to sanctioning public figures, suggesting that some get a pass while others are punished harshly.
Barr’s remarks come after Kimmel was suspended indefinitely by his network following controversial comments related to Charlie Kirk’s death. Now that his show Jimmy Kimmel Live! is poised to resume, she argued that few voices will question whether accountability is being fairly applied.
She also indicated that the backlash and defenses over Kimmel’s case expose deeper fissures in media coverage—particularly around political commentary and how networks choose which controversies to elevate and which to downplay.
At the same time, several major ABC affiliates have confirmed they will continue refusing to air Kimmel’s show, underscoring the unresolved tensions between broadcast networks, affiliates, and public reaction in the aftermath of his suspension.
