U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared that an international meeting in Geneva with Ukrainian officials has produced “a tremendous amount of progress” toward a new peace framework with Russia. Rubio described the talks as “meaningful” and identified them as the most productive session to date in this diplomatic process.
The discussions focus on refining a 28-point proposal aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, with Kyiv and Washington working toward an updated agreement that preserves Ukraine’s sovereignty and improves its security assurances. While details remain limited, both sides voiced optimism and signalled that further sessions will follow shortly.
Despite other unresolved issues—such as troop levels, territorial arrangements and post-war safeguards—Rubio conveyed confidence that a deal is within reach in a reasonable timeframe, noting that the momentum in diplomacy has picked up significantly over the past days.
