Michael Ángel García-Hernández, 32, has died from injuries sustained in the September 24 sniper attack on a Dallas ICE facility, authorities say. He was removed from life support Tuesday, becoming the second detainee to succumb following the assault.
García-Hernández leaves behind four children and a pregnant wife, who described his death as a “senseless tragedy” that has shattered their family. He had been shot multiple times in the attack, which earlier claimed the life of another detainee, Norlan Guzmán-Fuentes, 37.
The shooter, identified as Joshua Jahn, 29, died by suicide at the scene. Investigators are treating the incident as a targeted assault, citing anti-ICE messaging recovered from the suspect’s notes. Authorities say the attack stemmed from a “high degree of planning,” and the FBI is assisting the probe.
ICE says no agents were harmed in the incident. The third detainee wounded in the attack remains hospitalized, and the Dallas ICE field office is expected to reopen under increased security measures.
