Late Sunday night in Washington, D.C.’s Georgetown neighborhood, a U.S. Secret Service agent, part of the detail assigned to President Biden’s granddaughter Naomi Biden, discharged a firearm during an attempted car break-in. Fox News has confirmed that the incident occurred near where Naomi Biden, Hunter Biden and his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle’s 29-year-old daughter, was being escorted by agents.
The episode unfolded at approximately 11:58 p.m. when Secret Service agents, including the one assigned to Naomi Biden, observed what appeared to be three individuals attempting to break into a parked, unoccupied government vehicle. In response to the situation, one of the agents fired their service weapon. According to the Secret Service’s statement, no one was believed to be injured in the incident, and the suspects immediately fled in a red vehicle. A regional alert was issued to assist in locating the suspects.
The Secret Service and the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department are jointly investigating the incident, which did not pose a threat to any of the individuals under Secret Service protection.
This event occurs amidst a notable increase in vehicle-related crimes in Washington, D.C. Over 750 carjackings and more than 6,000 vehicle thefts have been reported this year. Notably, U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar, a Democrat from Texas, was a victim of a carjacking near the Capitol last month, where he was unharmed but his car was stolen by three armed individuals.
Additionally, violent crime in Washington has surged by over 40% compared to last year. In February, U.S. Representative Angie Craig, a Democrat from Minnesota, was attacked in her apartment building but managed to escape serious harm, sustaining only bruises.
