Unusual circumstances unfolded at the White House when a peculiar substance discovered within the West Wing turned out to be cocaine, as reported by sources.
The detection of the material prompted an immediate response, including an evacuation and emergency measures, to ensure the safety of the premises. On Sunday, the White House complex went into a precautionary closure as the Secret Service Uniformed Division launched an investigation into the unidentified item found in a work area, according to an official statement released by the United States Secret Service to Fox News Digital.
The statement further revealed, “The District of Columbia Fire Department was called upon to examine the item, and they swiftly determined that it posed no threat. The item was subsequently sent for further analysis, while an ongoing investigation is underway to determine the circumstances and method through which it entered the White House.”
According to The Washington Post, an individual familiar with the investigation anonymously disclosed that the suspicious item tested positive for cocaine. However, the official chose to remain unidentified.
The discovery triggered the immediate deployment of a hazardous materials response team to the vicinity of 18th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, as authorities took every precautionary measure to handle the situation with utmost care. As part of their response, sections of the Secret Service closed off roadways surrounding the White House.
For additional testing and analysis, the Secret Service confirmed that the substance in question has been sent to an appropriate facility.
It is worth noting that the Vice President was not present on the White House grounds during the incident, ensuring their safety and distancing them from the unfolding situation.
