Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, is receiving hospice care at home with his family.

On Saturday, Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi commented on former president Jimmy Carter’s decision to seek hospice care.

After decades of protecting Carter and his family, Guglielmi promised that the CIA “would eternally remain on your side.”

“Get some shut-eye, Mr. President. As always, we stand by your side “Guglielmi said so in a tweet.

The 39th president’s “remaining time” at home was disclosed by the Carter Center before the tweet.

“Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has opted to stay at home with his family and accept hospice care rather than further medical intervention, following a series of brief hospitalizations. His loved ones and his medical staff are fully behind him. The Carter family requests privacy at this time and expresses its appreciation for the outpouring of support from his many fans “It was proclaimed from the heart.

In 2015, the former president learned he had cancer. During a news conference held in August of that year at the Carter Center, he addressed his health. His liver cancer was a tiny melanoma, he added. He said the doctors told him cancer probably started elsewhere in his body before it manifested in his liver.

Cancer had already spread to four different parts of his brain, according to an MRI he received later that day. When getting the news about his condition, he feared he only had a matter of weeks to live, he said during the press conference. Saying, “I was strangely at ease,” he continued. “What a blessed life I’ve led. I’ve made thousands of wonderful friends and had a full, fascinating, and rewarding life.” He had an optimistic outlook and did everything the doctor asked so that he may live longer.

It wasn’t until December of that year that he declared the malignancy to have been completely eradicated. He went for another MRI and reported the results showed no signs of cancer in his brain.

As several falls left him with head trauma in 2019, he eventually underwent brain surgery to relieve the strain.

Former President Carter’s hometown was Plains, Georgia. During 1977-1981, he served as president after being nominated by the Democratic Party in 1976.

In 1982, former president Jimmy Carter and his wife, former first lady Rosalynn Carter, established The Carter Center as a non-profit, non-governmental institution. Along with Emory University, they worked “to enhance peace and health globally,” as stated on their website.
