Senate Democrats on Monday rejected another Republican push to resume federal funding through a “clean” continuing resolution. The proposal, which would have kept government operations going without added policy conditions, failed to attract enough Democratic support to advance.
Republican leaders expressed frustration, arguing that Democrats are prioritizing political demands over keeping the government open. Democrats countered that critical health care and social protections must be part of any funding agreement.
With no breakthrough in sight, the shutdown continues, leaving federal workers idle, agency operations stalled, and pressure mounting on both sides to compromise.
